Fire Storm Retrievers - The Dogs

Active:

Tess

A bullet since the day we got her! When this dog is running in the fields you'd swear she will ignite a brush fire with the friction from her feet! Long of leg and lean with a deep chest, Tess is the epitome of speed and grace. Tess is known for her pinpoint marking ability regardless of the length of the mark. Tess is extremely confident in her work and runs blinds with the same flat out speed as she runs her marks.

Tess has become the second Fire Storm dog to enter into the HRC 500 Point Club having attained her entry pass at the Essex HRC spring test on 2-May 2009. She was not quite 5 years old when she entered the 500 Point Club.

Luke

Luke comes to us from Black Diamond Retrievers in Oklahoma. Rodney Crim, owner of Black Diamond told me he had the dog for me when I went shopping for a pup, and I firmly believe that he was right on the money.

Luke is an extremely talented retriever for such a young pup. He has taken to water as if he was born in it, and can't get to his retrieves fast enough. Luke also drives land cover with an ability which would make a Finished dog envious. Put a live flier into the mix and the cover doesn't stand a chance. Luke is naturally honest in his lines and he isn't afraid of any cover which has yet to be presented to him.

Luke began his hunt test career at the tender age of 3 1/2 months when I entered him on a lark at the Essex HRC Started test on 3-May 2009. Much to my surprise, Luke passed that test and then passed the Michigan, Central Michigan and St. Clair Flats tests in succession attaining his Started title before he reached the age of 5 months.

I expect big things out of this guy, and I don't see a reason in the world why this ball of fire won't come through. At 8 months old, Luke is working on baseball and is successfully retrieving doubles out to 75 yards on both land and water.

Passed on to God:

Jake

What can one say about the dog that made his handler look so good. Jake was just so easy to train. I've never experienced a dog before or since which had this level of intelligence, patience, and strength. Jake once earned the nickname "Old One Whistle" for his blind retrieves which was truly a testament to his talent. We were a team; he knew what I wanted, and I felt like I could read his mind.

Jake was to be our foundation stud. Two of the three litters he sired are all in training for hunt test and hunting, and the owners tell me that they are extremely happy with their pups. The pups which I've worked with have the same calm demeanor and attentiveness that their sire had.

Jake started hunting very young, but was so adept at hunting geese and pheasant that it just didn't make sense to keep him away from the birds. Jake, along with his brace mate Tess, have been hunted in the Dakotas and Canada extensively. It is no stretch of the imagination to state that Jake literally had thousands of birds shot over him. Pheasants, grouse, quail, crane, ducks and geese, it just didn't matter to this dog.

Jake earned an amazing 660 points in his short hunt test carer before losing his battle with Blastomycosis.
